Hi, I'm Geoffrey Holmes, director of "Bramble Reborn". My partner Bill Wiley and I are hard at work filming the new adventures of USCGC Bramble as she attempts to re-create history: a voyage to circumnavigate the North American continent! We're shooting with surface cameras, aerial drones, and ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) to capture all the action in glorious 4K, which has four times the resolution of standard high definition video. Please check the website often as I'll be sending out daily logs of our progress. And don't forget to join our mailing list: click here.

We’re heading through water that’s more open now. We crash through some huge areas of sea ice and Bill is able to shoot it with the GoPro camera. Unfortunately I’m below deck when he spots some seals resting on the ice! The GoPro doesn’t have zoom on it so he’s […]

I wake to the sound of some serious thuds.  We’re hitting some big chunks of ice but the Bramble handles it just fine.  The guys are excited to see Quebec City as we pass because they’ve been told about the wall and fortifications built centuries ago.  Quebec comes into view […]

The ship leaves Montreal bright and early and heads up the St. Lawrence. We are still using pilots as it’s a requirement in this stretch of the river. The French speaking pilots point out some interesting sights but most of our crew doesn’t speak a word of French so there’s […]

Captain Robert is a great drone pilot and provides me with some amazing aerial shots of the ship he took in Lake Erie.  The guy is a regular Steven Spielberg with a drone.  I’m below decks when one of the crew calls me up topside.    A Canadian Icebreaker is […]

We are transiting the locks of the St. Lawrence on our way to Montreal.  I learn so much.  Never knew they needed locks here but with the elevation change and rapids, it’s essential for large vessels.   Some locks change our elevation a great deal, others are more like a […]

We start our journey through the famous thousand islands.  There is a lot of ice but the Bramble cuts through it like butter.  Despite a drizzle, we see many amazing sights including Bolt Castle.  We can only sail during the daylight because we are employing Pilots to guide the ship […]
